An AIabama poI ice officer was ki IIe d Sunday while conducting an investigation in Mobile, authorities said.
Officer Shawn Tudor was con ducting follow-up work on an in vestigation when he was SH O0 t by the susp ect, Police Chief Lawrence Baptiste said.
The accused Marco Perez is already in poIice custody, however Batiste admi tted that he does not know whether he sh0O t or not.
Mobile officers wanted Perez for theft of property and filing a fa lse p oIi ce rep ort. Fe d era l investigators also reportedly sought to revoke his probation.
Tuder had been with his department for less than five years when he was named Off icer of the Month in August 2017. According to Batiste, he “really just started at that point in his career where he started to have a really big impact not only on people in the neighborhood, but to the men and women who work here in this depa rtment.”
Tudor’s de ɑ th comes nearly a year after anot her po li ce officer, Justin Billa, was ki I I ed on the job while trying to ɑrr e s t the man who k iII ed his ex-wife.
Batiste told reporters he wasn’t sure what would change. He also ackno wl edge d that helping authorit ies iden tify “bad seeds” and individ uals “who do th e most d ama ge in their neighb orhood” could be h elpful.
